Vienna - Day 2.

August 26, 2014

So recently, I have been pretty good with my time management. I used to get shouted at all the time for not being ready on time, but now, I'm always the first to be ready to leave !

I woke up at half past 6 and slowly put on my make up and one by one we got ready. My grand-mother was the last to use to toilet and because there are no shower curtains, the whole floor was wet. My mother stressed to her that she should just go into the room to change instead of changing in the toilet. And I was in for the biggest shock of my life. I was having a smoke outside in the garden when we heard a my mum scream. My biggest fear had become real. Apparently, she sat on the plastic laundry basket to put on her trousers which had given way and she fell on her shoulder. As we were unfamiliar with the area, we had to google for the nearest doctor. Luckily for us, there was one just one street away. We escorted her in the rain. We didn't have to wait long for her turn. In just under 1 minute, my mother came out saying that the doctor said that it was broken and we had to bring her to the hospital immediately for an x-ray. I had my doubts though. I was saying that because they only speak German and have limited vocabulary for English, the closest word he could think of was broken. But obviously, I wasn't sure.

I waited anxiously back at the apartment, whilst Uncle Pat & my mother went to the hospital with my nan.

They came back about an hour and a half later. And thank God that it was only dislocated. All they had to do was pop it back into it's place. But because she is getting on in her years, they mentioned that it would take a longer healing process and they put her in a sling. It's not a good thing, but honestly, praise the Lord that it wasn't fractured.

Having cancelled our half day tour, we just chilled at home. She felt really bad for having ruined our short trip to Vienna, but we couldn't care less. We were just thankful she was alright. In the late afternoon, but granny was up for a walk, So we took a taxi into town.

Right in the middle of town was the Saint Stephens church, which was absolutely gorgeous.

We then looked for the nearest bus station where they had the hop on, hop off bus. And whilst walking, we saw tons of horse carriages. I have always wanted to ride one, but till now, I haven't had the chance. It didn't smell very pleasant though. You could smell their poop from a mile away !

So we finally managed to find the bus stop and we hopped onto the bus which went to various places of interest. Unfortunately, we didn't get off at any stops, but I did managed to take a few photos from inside the bus.

After we arrived back at the start, we went to have tea. I've always like having coffee in a random street in Europe somehow.

I managed to get a taste of the famous Sacher cake as well. My life is complete.

Good news for all you friends out there who has a big family. Most of the taxis in Vienna are 7 seaters and all they have to do is put the seat back up.

We went back to the apartment and rested for an hour and a bit.

It was dinner time then and we had no clue where we were going to head to for dinner. Then my mum mentioned this buffet style restaurant that we walked past yesterday that was just up the road. And so we went without my grand-mother as she had wanted to rest.

So we got there in under 5 minutes and got ourselves a place. After settling down, we went to explore. And it wasn't quite what we expected, They had little to close to no cooked food like spring rolls and friend chicken. They had soup which wasn't very pleasant. They had like salmon sashimi and prawns for the cold section. And the mains were like noodles along with your choice of ingredients and sauce and the chef would cook it teppanyaki style. But we made do.

Here's us at dinner.

So anyways, we had an interesting conversation with the chef. Me being the blind bat as I always am, did not see the soy sauce on the table. So I tried to ask him in my horrible mandarin whether he had jiang qing. And it turned out to be a duck and chicken conversation. It was then I realized that I had wasabi in my hands and pointed to it with a pouring action. And then he excitedly shouted "Ahhhhhhhhhh jiang you" and I was like "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH". And when he pointed at the table, I was well embarrassed.

As I wasn't keen on the noodles, I had planned on getting myself full by stuffing my face with salmon sashimi. But the problem was, no matter how many times we asked, they didn't replenish. So I went to the same chef and asked, and a few minutes later, he served me this !

Sweet huh ?

The funniest thing was, this was a buffet place, so the last thing you'd expect is someone serving you. And when the table next to us saw this, they asked for a serving as well. And I guess he couldn't turn them down. He came back out with a plate shortly, and it was just simply put on a plate. I felt bad and just gobbled them down. Hahahahaha.

So he came over and had a chat with us. And he was well excited and wanted to take me out tomorrow as it was his day off. But we changed the day tour that we were supposed to go on today for tomorrow, so I couldn't. He then suggested meeting him after his shift had ended. And what the heck right ? We're on holiday and so we agreed.

We took the take out back to my grand-mother and just chilled out to half 10. After which, I walked back to his work place and then he took us to this pool palour / bar. It was at the end of our street which took about a 10-15 minute walk.

I played a game or two before his friends started pouring in. As much as I wanted to speak to them ( and I did by the way, in my broken dire mandarin ), I had trouble understanding them. But all in all, they were all really really nice people.
