和菓子.

August 21, 2021

和菓子 or wagashi, are basically traditional Japanese sweets that are typically enjoyed with green tea. There are so many different types of wagashi, but the more common ones are daifuku, mochi, nerikiri and rakugan.

Seeing as the mooncake festival in coming up, we decided to give nerikiri a go.

Nerikiri is made with sweetened white bean paste and glutinous rice flour. The nerikiri dough can then be wrapped around red or white bean paste and then each one would be shaped individually.

But today, rather than using the traditional fillings, we decided to try lotus paste instead.

So here's our first attempt at our Japanese mooncakes!
