Hong Kong - Day 4.
I was dreading this day. Why ? Because we had planned to go to Macau. There's nothing wrong with Macau, I was just dreading the ferry ride. I had a really bad experience back in Paris you see. 2 years ago, when we went to Paris, my mother booked this day tour where they took you to the Eifle tower and then a canal boat ride which lasted for an hour. For the first 10 minutes, I was taking photos enthusiastically and after that I just felt like throwing up. I didn't know it was possible to be canal sick on a boat which was probably going at about 10km/h. Sigh.
So anyways, we had breakfast at that same cha chan teng we had dinner at last night as it was just convenient. I don't usually have breakfast so I wasn't feeling all that hungry, so I just had a simple ham & cheese sandwich. But just take a look at my sandwich. Now do you understand what I mean when I said I have nothing to say about it ? I mean like I was kind of expecting melted cheese at least ?
We then took a taxi to the ferry terminal. It kind of reminded me of ferry terminal in Singapore. So anyways, we went upstairs to try and purchase some ferry tickets. This was when it got a little confusing. There were so many different companies and different locations. We then got approached by this dude selling various ferry tickets and he was selling them for a slightly cheaper price. I must admit that I was afraid we got scammed, but everything turned out to be alright. They have ferries departing every 30 minutes, so it's fairly convenient.
And off to Macau we went.
I managed to sleep throughout the ferry ride. I didn't feel sick in the slightest. I wonder if sleeping through it helped. I am just glad that it didn't ruin my day !
When we alighted, the sight I saw wasn't pretty. It was renovation in progress and because I just woke up, I thought I was in some shit hole.
By the time we made it outside the ferry terminal, the crowd had dispersed. We were one of the few that was left behind and we felt really lost. We didn't know what bus to take into town. By the time we found the bus, we had to wait about 30 minutes for the next bus to arrive. All we could do was sit around and wait patiently.
So when the bus finally arrived, we had a smooth ride which took about 20 minutes to the hotel. The first thing I did when we got there was locate the toilet. Next, we went into the casino to change a little bit more money. And then we took a long walk to Senado square with Saint Domingo's church was just round the corner.
So we continued walking in search of the Ruin's of Saint Paul which I had no idea what it looked like. We tried looking for signboards which led us round in circles. We then accidentally found a side street with 2 awesome shops. One was a souvenir shop where I bought my dad some munchies and also where we bought the famous egg tarts from.
The other was this shop.
It's similar to lok lok, but it comes with a bowl of curry to accompany your choice of sticks. Guys, if you do go to Macau, you have got to try this. I promise you that you won't regret this !
I am so going to miss this bowl of awesomeness.
So we continued walking and when we couldn't find the Ruin's of Saint Paul, we decided to give up. We decided to head back to the ferry terminal. As we were trying to make our way out, we came across a souvenir shop which we went into. My granny collects magnets you see, so I wanted to get her one. After browsing for a while, she chose the one with Ruin's of Saint Paul. As we were paying, I tried asking the lady if she knew where this place was. She then pointed and said that way.
And guess what ? We finally made it ! This was the one place my grand-mother had wanted to go so badly, and I am so glad that I managed to fulfill it !
So with mission accomplished, we decided that it was time to head back to the ferry terminal. We did think of walking back to the hotel to take the shuttle bus, but as we discussed and thought about the ridiculous queue we saw when we had arrived, we decided to take a taxi instead.
We arrived at the ferry terminal at about 645pm in hopes to make it for the 7pm ferry. But we were told it was full and that we had to wait for the next ferry. Bear in mind that there is absolutely nothing to do at the terminal and there was no where to cotch. I had to make ah ma sit at the bus stop as that was the only place to sit down.
As the time came nearer, we joined in the long ass, never ending, winding queue.
Again, I was dreading the ferry ride, but hey, I made it back in one piece !
So we arrived at Tsim sha sui shortly after 830pm. As we were walking to to this hotel to take a taxi with the intention of heading back to our hotel and looking for some place nearby to have dinner, but we spotted a restaurant just across the road and decided to dine there instead.
As it was our last night, I just had to have my favorite ham sui gok and my baked pork buns. Here are pictures of dinner.
So we headed back to our hotel after we were done. We settled my granny down before heading for our daily night walk.
Usually when I go on holidays, I'd buy instant noodles for supper. So tonight was no different. I bought the Nissin cup noodles that we have in Singapore, except the packaging is different, it's bigger in size and the taste is 100% richer than the ones in Singapore.
Well, I best be off now. Semi packing now would be a good idea !
