Smile dessert.

May 02, 2022

You know how it is, scrolling through Facebook and then you’d get random advertisements?

Well, apart from k-pop news, I get tons for anything that’s food related. Ages ago, I came across an advert for a newly open dessert shop that opens till late and Jalan besar and I really wanted to go try it, but just never had a chance to go.

So many eons later, I thought I’d finally get to try it, but as tomorrow is a public holiday, the queue was actually horrendous. We joined the queue for 5 minutes and decided to exit.

We then found another article on a very instagrammable worthy dessert shop at Bugis which looked really promising and decided we’d take a romantic stroll. After about 20 minutes, we finally got to Smile dessert, but to our horror, it was equally as crowded. But on the bright side, this place actually has three levels, so we thought it’d be faster.

Queued for at least 20 minutes and finally it was our turn to order. We got all excited deciding what we were going to order, which quickly turned into disappointment, because we were told that everything we wanted was sold out and that included our second and third choice. The worst thing was at first he said everything that is taped off on the menu was unavailable, so we tried ordering something else and then was told the same thing. And I’m not even exaggerating, but it was 3/4 of the menu that was unavailable. But the ultimate thing that annoyed us was the fact that whilst taking our order, he went on and had like nonsensical conversations with his colleagues and ignored us and we ended up taking more than 5 minutes to place an order.

So, put getting annoyed aside, we were directed to the second floor and in all honesty, there was this ball pit corner that was really pretty.

Well, we were already pre warned that there would be a 30-45 minute wait, but however, we did order a ice blended yoghurt drink. And considering the warm weather combined with that long walk, we were thirsty. But even after 20 minutes, we didn’t get our drink. By this time, Geraint was thoroughly annoyed and decided to go downstairs to check and guess what? Our almost completely melted drink was just sat there at the counter and was told that they wanted to serve it the same time as the dessert. Like, I cannot even comprehend what was going on there.

So, 10 years later, we finally got our soufflé. I’m really sorry, but there’s nothing special about it. There was nothing instagrammable worthy about it and it wasn’t even good.

Well, I guess that was our first and also the last time we’re ever going there.
