Batam weekend, part 2.

March 15, 2020

Well, it's day 2 of our Batam weekend and here's how it went.

The boys left early this morning for their golfing day, whilst us girls met up at 10am at the cafe downstairs for breakfast, as discussed the night before.

And this was what I had this morning.

We then proceeded to Nagoya hill shopping mall, which was about a 15 minute drive away.

We split up as 1 wanted to get her hair done, another wanted a mani and pedi and we didn't particularly want or needed anything, so we just walked around and did some window shopping. I'm sure some of you have already been there, but it was my first time and boy was I fascinated by the amount of imitation goods that are available in that mall. It was almost like 9.5 out of 10 shops were selling imitation goods. From jewelry to bags, you name it, they have it all.

If there was one thing I really wanted, it was to have a meal at A&W. It's been eons since I last ate there. When was the last time ? Good question. Perhaps when the outlet at Clementi was still around ? Thing was, it was at an awkward timing to really have a meal. It was sort of tea-time-ish, so I decided to pass. I'm probably going to regret my decision tomorrow, but hey, at least I had a root beer float, with no straw ! Yes my friends, I drank it all with a spoon.

We got back to the hotel at about half past 4 and we all went back to our own rooms to freshen up. We then gathered at Aunty Anu's room for a pre-drink before heading out to dinner. Tonight's dinner was to celebrate Aunty Madeline's birthday.

But first, check out the pretty sky as the sun was setting.

And here's on of us before heading out.

So, for tonight's dinner, we went to Best Western Premier as they had a rooftop bar. Well, when they say rooftop bar, it was only on the 15th floor, but it was pretty nice.

La Bella Vita was the name of the restaurant we dined at and it was pretty cool as they offer both Western and Indonesian cuisine. Can you guess which one we went for ?

And here is the fabulous birthday girl.

And another one of the ladies.

Happy birthday Aunty Madeline ! I hope you had a good one.

I'm so glad we came. This will probably be the last holiday of the year, or well, at least until Covid dies out.

Oh by the way, did I tell you about the scare we had earlier before dinner. Well, actually, it started from when we were in the room with the news running in the background. It stated that from tomorrow 1159pm, all travelers (including Singapore residents) entering Singapore with recent travel history to ASEAN countries, Japan, Switzerland or United Kingdom within the last 14 days will be issued with a 14 day stay home notice. I wasn't all that bothered or anything as we had planned to be back in Singapore by evening anyways, and even if we were to serve a 14 day SHN, it wouldn't really have been a problem for us. But Aunty Madeline on the other hand, desperately needed to go back to America and her flight was for Tuesday evening, so I can only imagine her worry. So, that was the first half of the scare. The second half was when we were taking photos of the view at the roof top bar, this random Caucasian man approached us and asked if we were from Singapore. Once we identified ourselves, he then went on and said, "Ok guys, I work for the Covid team in Singapore and guys, they just broke the news that by 11am tomorrow, if you guys are not back, you'll need to serve a 14 day SHN". We all then screeched loudly in unison and said "11PM". After "double checking" on his mobile, he went "oh yeah, sorry guys, it's 11pm". DUH.

Thanks for the scare bruh.

And that was the end of our very exciting evening.

Goodnight from Batam. xxx
